(La Asunción)

Locate besides Plaza Bolivar in the capitol La Asunción. Its construction started in 1571. It is one of the oldest churches in Venezuela and was built with lime and adobe.  The Main Chapel, the sacristy and the tower and the bell tower were finished on June 6, 1699.

History: In 1.571 a very primitive church was built by Brother Juan de Manzanillo. It was destroyed sevaral years later by French luteranian. In 1602 the church was in shambles. In 1609 the construction of the new church was iniciated. The church was finished in 1621.

General Description: Rectangular base, 17 m wide and 48 m long, 3 ships, rows of toscanian columns with arcs. The main ship is separated from the prebitary by an arc. The main altar features a statue of Jesus made of wood and plaster. The main entrance is an arc that rests on colomns. Narrow  rectangular windows  on both walls allow natural light to enter.
