Nueva Esparta State, conformed by the islands Margarita, Coche and Cubagua counts, has, as a country deeply linked to the sea, a tradition of a delicious cuisine based on fresh fish and seafood. For years, local chefs and cooks have marked history with their exquisite dishes and have made the gastronomy of Margarita Island famous nationally and internationally.
 The typical dishes that best represent the local gastronomy are" Pastel de Chucho "(Sting ray pie with ripe banana and eggs) and "Sancocho de Pescado "(Fish stew). Both dishes combine the succulent way of the local seasoning with the fresh fish and seafood.
Other typical, delicious, succulent and supposedly aphrodisiac dishes are Tripa e Perla, Botuto Salad, Consommé de Chipi-chip and Crema de Guacuco and siete potencias.
